THE HEART OF LÖWENHERZ PRIVATE BREWERY

Löwenherz Private Brewery – Tegernsee vibes with a Taunus twist is the passion project of Torben Emmerich and entrepreneur Frank Niehage. Torben Emmerich, who is from Wehrheim, the brewery’s hometown, had the vision to create a truly great beer for the Taunus region. Frank Niehage is a true beer lover and the mastermind behind the brewery. With Löwenherz, he fulfills a dream: to create a place where brewing art, great taste, and a strong local connection come together.

“I wanted to create a place that brings people together – with honest beer, great food, and a real atmosphere.” – Frank Niehage

With the slogan “Where Tegernsee meets Taunus,” they bring a bit of Tegernsee tradition into local brewing. So, if you’re craving a beer made with heart, you should definitely try Löwenherz!

DIE SCHANKWIRTSCHAFT – THE TAVERN

The building itself is a real eye-catcher from the outside – wrapped in 8,600 hand-laid wooden shingles, fixed with 17,000 shiny stainless steel nails. Each one tells the story of true craftsmanship, attention to detail, and pride in what has been created here. With an investment of 5 million euros, this is more than just a state-of-the-art brewery – it’s a place where enjoyment, tradition, and hospitality come together in a special way.

As soon as you step inside, a warm, welcoming atmosphere surrounds you. The air carries a hint of fresh wood, a familiar and pleasant scent that makes you feel right at home. The stylish interior, designed by the renowned Feil company, combines solid spruce and oak wood in a harmonious composition. The tables are sturdy yet elegant, and the chairs invite you to sit down and stay awhile.

The walls, some covered in fine deer hide, not only add alpine coziness but also create a sense of comfort. It’s a mix that surprises yet feels familiar: the rustic charm of the Alps meets Hessian warmth. The tavern can seat up to 100 guests, but even when full, it retains a feeling of warmth. Everyone is welcome here – whether for a casual after-work beer or a long, satisfying dinner. This place is not only beautiful – it just feels right.

THE BEERS – TRADITION MEETS PERFECTION

Löwenherz Private Brewery – Tegernsee vibes with a Taunus twist is the new favorite beer and a true masterpiece! Brewed with passion and time, following traditional recipes, with a longer maturation period and especially cool storage. The result: a taste that refreshes, yet is fine, full of character, and truly unique.

You have three special options to choose from, each offering its own little taste adventure:

🍺 Löwenherz Weissbier
Crisp, fruity, and incredibly harmonious. The gentle sweetness dances with spicy yeast aromas – a true delight for those who enjoy a lively beer. Subtle banana notes unfold in the aftertaste, lingering on the tongue. A Weissbier straight out of a storybook – but with Löwenherz flair.

🍺 Löwenherz Zwickl
Unfiltered, natural, and full of flavor. This beer has character – with a strong yeast note, a rich texture, and true depth. If you love beer in its purest form, you’ll celebrate the Zwickl. Honest, unadorned, and authentic.

🍺 Löwenherz Hell
Light, malt-flavored, and wonderfully refreshing. The fine hop note makes this Hell the perfect companion for sunny beer garden afternoons and warm evenings outdoors. A true classic – inspired by the legendary Hell from Tegernsee, reinterpreted with love and its own signature – for those who appreciate good company and honest beer.

But wine lovers will also find something to enjoy. Try the Löwenherz Grauburgunder. Soon, a glass wine cellar will be created to showcase fine wines – stylish, transparent, and directly accessible. Whether you prefer hops or grapes, Löwenherz has the perfect moment of enjoyment for you.

BREWER WITH HEART: CHRISTIAN OCHS

On this special evening, I sit across from the man who embodies the soul of Löwenherz Brewery: Christian Ochs, the brewmaster. Over fifty years old, deeply rooted in the Taunus region, and with a wealth of experience that stretches far beyond the borders of Hesse. He spent six years in Davos, working internationally, learning, refining, and perfecting his craft. Today, he brings all this knowledge back home – into every batch of Löwenherz beer.

Christian Ochs is not just a brewer – he is a master of malting and brewing, with a keen sense for tradition and the courage to innovate. With shining eyes, he tells me about the small, fine details that make his beer so special:

The hops come from Germany’s largest growing area – Hallertau – and are complemented by carefully selected varieties from Lake Constance, which give the beers their distinctive elegance. And the water? It comes from the brewery’s own Taunus spring – real mountain spring water, crystal clear and pure. With a pH of 3.5 instead of the usual 5, it’s especially soft – giving the beer an incredible smoothness on the palate.

QUALITY TAKES TIME

True brewing art means patience,” says Christian Ochs – and you can taste it. While many beers are ready in just four weeks, Löwenherz beers take six to eight weeks to mature – in spacious 6,000-liter tanks. And not just that: instead of the usual 4–6°C, the beer matures at 0°C – this is brewing at the highest level. The result is a beer with a rounded, drinkable character, finely balanced and exceptionally smooth.

A beer that lets you taste its origins. Brewed with care, knowledge, and passion. A beer that doesn’t need to hide behind the big names from Tegernsee – but confidently takes its place: right in the heart of Taunus, right in the middle of life. Löwenherz beer – brewed by a master who loves his craft. And you can taste it in every sip.

WHAT’S ON THE MENU?

At the tavern, you won’t find boring standard dishes – instead, you’ll enjoy real culinary highlights that surprise, excite, and stay in your memory. At Löwenherz Brewery, it’s not just about brewing outstanding beer – they also cook at the highest level. The kitchen team, led by head chef Adrian Isailă, who perfected his craft at “Victor’s Fine Dining by Christian Bau” and “Lohninger” in Frankfurt, brings a wealth of creativity and experience to the Taunus.

The result? A refined reinterpretation of traditional cuisine, always made with fresh, seasonal, and regional ingredients. Isailă skillfully blends classic flavors with modern techniques, creating a menu that has as much character as the beer served here.
